The peacock is definitely invited to my next wine dinner. Luscious and decadent, the sweetness dominates the palate at the start with nectarine and honey, but the bright acid balances out the sugars with a cleansing citrus peel finish. Very good, but the least interesting of the flight.Ģ016 Late Harvest Muscat Canelli - Powerful aromas of Apricot jam and yellow peaches. Plums, earth and rosemary on the palate with round tannins softened by 4% Cabernet (Washington Merlot is massive!).Ģ013 Cabernet Sauvignon - Ripe blackberry and blackcurrants with a hint of cedar. Among them were:Ģ016 Muscat Canelli - Off-dry with a crisp, effervescent acidity, gardenia aromas and bright tangerine on the palate.Ģ017 Chardonnay - 77% natural fermentation in oak brings a complex array of subtle vanilla and toast to ripe pears and mouth watering lemon juice.Ģ012 Merlot - Smoked mesquite wood warms the nose with tobacco leaf and blueberry. Each wine presents it’s rich Washington fruit with a decidedly European-like expression. Visiting CSM was a pleasant (and tasty!) reminder that they are definitely the foundational pioneer of our small little corner of the world of wine. I’ll admit, when I feel like partaking in some of my home state’s juice, my mind typically goes to Gorman, aMaurice, Mark Ryan, Andrew Will, Avennia, and many others that have been driving Washington Wine as of the past decade or so. The peacock didn’t have the best suggestions for wine, but the tasting room staff definitely delivered! I spent my Monday at the oldest winery in Washington State tasting wine, wandering the beautiful, sprawling grounds and hanging out with a peacock.
